Design and install smarter heating systems, with confidence

A complete training programme for modern heating system design
Total Hydronics is a practical training programme that gives heating engineers a clear way to design systems properly.
Delivered through complimentary classroom and online courses, the full training programme combines real-world scenarios, interactive simulators and a repeatable 10-step process to help engineers design and install systems that perform properly, first time.
Why now?
If you fit heating systems today, the job is changing. It’s no longer just about fitting the boiler or the heat pump. How you design and set up the system matters just as much.
Good hydronic design is the difference between a smooth job and unforeseen problems, between low efficiency and high efficiency, between customer satisfaction and complaints.
Our hydronics courses give you the knowledge to design systems that meet the demands of modern boilers and heat pumps, so you can work confidently across either or both.
A practical approach
Hydronics is often taught as theory rather than learning you can apply on site. We've reversed that.
Our Total Hydronics training programme starts with what you actually need to be able to do on the job, in the order you work - from survey to commissioning - and teaches the theory needed to make the right decisions at each step.
Heating engineers leave with the know-how and confidence to apply design properly on every job and a solid foundation to take their skills further.
Complementary classroom and online delivery
We know heating engineers like to learn in the classroom and in their own time. Total Hydronics gives them the best of both worlds with a face-to-face and on-demand courses.
- Hydronics Foundations is our 1-day classroom course, where you'll build a design for a system using our 10 Steps to Good Hydronic Design process and guided by one of our expert trainers.
- Hydronics Unlocked is our accredited digital course which breaks the 10 Steps into bite-sized, interactive modules you can work through at your own pace and revisit anytime. The digital course is launching at Installer Show, NEC Birmingham 23-25 June. Find us on the Ideal Heating stand.
Get qualified
Our Hydronics Unlocked digital course includes a Low Temperature Heating qualification.
Who is Total Hydronics for?
- Experienced heating engineers who want to sharpen their system skills and stay ahead of the curve.
- Newly qualified engineers craving clear, practical answers that actually help on the job.
- Installing gas or oil boilers but curious about making the move into heat pumps.
- Already fitting heat pumps but still feel like there are missing pieces you can’t quite figure out.
- Designing systems on paper and want to back it up with solid, hands-on understanding of how things work in the real world.
What you’ll learn and be able to apply
By the end of the programme, you’ll have the practical skills to start designing and optimising heating systems that perform properly on every job:
- Use our 10-step process in your everyday work - apply simple maths to design complete systems with confidence
- Balance flow and resistance - understand how they interact and use that to improve system performance
- Select and set pumps correctly - calculate resistance and match pump performance to the system
- Size pipework properly - choose the right diameter to reduce pressure loss and manage velocity
- Apply modern controls effectively - understand compensation controls and their role in hydronic design
- Design with heat pumps in mind - build the understanding needed to move confidently into low temperature systems
